Many homeowners prefer to do most of their landscaping themselves. In this case, you will need some basic equipment and products. You will probably want to invest in a good lawnmower, a hedge trimmer, a 'weed whacker', some hoses and sprinklers, rakes, a wheel-barrow, and perhaps a tree pruner and fertilizer spreader. You'll also need mulch in the Spring, some flowers and plants, and a seasonal fertilizer program. Most of these items can be found at your local hardware store or garden center, at a reasonable price.
If you want a more professionally manicured property, there are services for which you may want to pay. These services range form lawn care, to more extensive landscaping, and may include water-garden construction, decorative masonry work, or even a 'landscape architect'.
Many people are adding decorative touches to their landscaping. While most people are not showing off pink flamingos, whirly-birds, and garden gnomes, many are displaying wooden foot bridges, statuary and even fountains and gazebos.
