Don't Get Yourself Into Hot Water!

There are several major systems in your home that should be well-maintained and updated, in order to avoid costly damage down the road. One of these is the plumbing and heating system.

When you buy your home, make sure to have an inspector check the pipes, hot water heater and boiler. It is a good idea to replace any old pipes in your bathrooms and kitchen with new PVC pipes. Also, if your furnace is over thirty years old, you may want to consider a new one. Not only will it be safer, but you may find that you save money on heating bills as well. Unfortunately, a hot water heater often only lasts about ten years (right around the time the warranty expires)! If your hot water heater is ten-plus years old, and you see any evidence of corrosion or leaking, it is probably time to invest in a new one.
