Hiring a Moving Company?
If you're planning a move in the near future, have you thought about hiring a moving company? If so, there are some things you should consider?.
Consider the cost. It can be very costly to hire a moving company. If you are very busy, and have limited resources to help you move, a moving company may be your best option. On our last move, we got quotes from moving companies, and were shocked at the cost!
We have moved several times, and have always done so 'on our own', and with lots of help from family and friends. The last time we moved, we even rented a self-storage unit, made small trips back and forth, and stored our less necessary belongings there. That way, on the day of the 'big move', we only had to deal with our large furniture, and the necessities that we had kept on hand.
Although there are headaches involved in moving yourself, there are also headaches involved with hiring a moving company. Make sure, before hiring a company, that they are reputable. Check with friends and family, and even your realtor, to see if they can recommend a company. There have been various 'scams' reported in recent years regarding moving companies.
Some of these scams involve: Showing up weeks late to deliver your belongings; increasing the bill (sometimes DOUBLE), at the time of delivery, and holding your belongings 'hostage' until you pay up; making customers sign blank contracts prior to starting the packing process.
