Polar Caves Park, Plymouth, New Hampshire
We visited the Polar Caves Park (www.polarcaves.com) one summer day when our son was about five years old. Located in Plymouth, New Hampshire this is about a two hour trip from Billerica. We went early in the morning and spent most of the day exploring the caves and walking trails. We even had time to stop at Canobie Lake Park in Salem, New Hampshire on our way home (a good deal, since admission is cheaper after 5pm).
The Discovery Museums, Acton, Massachusetts
The Discovery Museums are two museums in one location. The Children's Discovery Museum is like a 'play house' for toddlers and pre-schoolers, with differently themed rooms for play and exploration. The Science Discovery Museum is a science themed museum, great for kids a bit older, with a lot of hands on activities. If you do not feel like going into Boston for the Museum of Science and the Children's Museum, this is a great alternative!
